As a Patient Check-In Representative, you will play a crucial role in ensuring patients are properly registered and prepared for their medical appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Completes check-in process including general health screening procedures to notify clinical units of patient arrivals
  • Identifies and updates incomplete registrations, verifies and updates demographic and insurance information, ensures all patients have completed and signed registration forms
  • Verifies and updates insurance eligibility using health plan or vendor specific websites
  • Creates shell accounts for patients with workers' compensation and motor vehicle accident-related injuries and refers them to Medical Billing (ILR Team)
  • Reviews and scans information for workers' compensation and motor vehicle related injuries into medical records
  • Ensures patients have appropriate referrals and signed waivers if necessary, enters referral information into Epic system
  • Collects payments, co-payments, and past due balances and posts payments to appropriate accounts and date of service
  • Performs daily business office cashier functions including counting money, reconciling daily practice collections, preparing and providing cash receipts, and balancing cash and receipts
  • Provides regular feedback and individual training to site staff regarding cash handling and end-of-day deposit procedures
  • Maintains and updates required cash handling forms, keeps adequate supplies of such forms, and orders, maintains, and distributes supplies including collections and bank deposit forms, imprinted deposit slips, bank deposit bags, and other supply items related to the practice collections and bank deposit system
  • May review, research, and correct information as needed for work business reports or work queue including but not limited to incoming referral work queue, missing coverage reports, and outstanding balance reports after 90 days in role
  • May provide information to patients as requested, order ambulance and/or coordinate transportation when needed, perform overhead pages for Rapid Response, arrange for Interpreter Services, and provide site phone coverage as necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ years of administrative experience in a business setting (healthcare or hospitality check-in with cash handling, insurance verification, payment collection, banking, billing or end of the day reconciliation) with direct patient or customer service delivery (healthcare setting preferred)
  • Beginner level computer proficiency
  • Access to reliable transportation and valid US driver's license

Skills

  • Demonstrated customer service and recovery skills, strong verbal, written, and telephone communication skills
  • Attention to detail, demonstrated multi-tasking skills
  • Working knowledge of medical office check-in function including health plan coverage and referrals, authorizations, patient balance terminology (deductible, co-pay, co-insurance), and EMR proficiency

Pay and Schedule

Hourly pay for this role will range from $16.15 to $28.80 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.

Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm
