Patient Care Technician - WISL

Summary of Job Duties

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: High School, GED or formal educational equivalent. Successful completion of patient care technician course is required within 3 months of employment.
• Preferred Qualifications: CPR Certified/Licensed. Experience in an ambulatory care setting

Job Responsibilities: The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse(s) and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines. Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care/changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints. Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients. Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed. Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader. Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care. Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members. Follows through on delegated patient care activities. Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition). Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards. Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems. Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties.
