Patient Care Technician, Virtual Safety Tech, 36 Hours (Nights / Every Other Weekend)

Position Summary

As a Patient Care Technician on the Patient Telemonitoring unit, you’ll video monitor BMC patients who require an extra set of eyes and redirection for their safety. The most common patient-type you’ll serve are those with high-fall risk, elopement, as well as those who pull or detach lines and tubes. In this role you’ll leverage a platform, Avasure, to remotely monitor up to 24 patients. The system allows for two-way communication in multiple languages and a STAT alarm when a patient requires urgent assistance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the MedSurg department and their families.
    • Obtain vital signs
    • Bathe and feed
    • Dress wounds
    • Assist with hygiene
    • Clean rooms and linens
    • Emotional support
  • Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the MedSurg department.
    • Contribute to the efficient operation of the MedSurg department
    • Ensure quality patient/family clinical outcomes

Job Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
  • One of the following:
  • One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting
  • Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation
  • Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training
  • Completed an approved certified medical assistant training
  • One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)
  • Fluency in another language a plus
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred
