Patient Care Technician - T7 Oncology - West Penn Hospital - Full Time

About the role

This job provides direct care to patients and assists with non-direct patient care unit coordination. The incumbent is expected to perform basic nursing procedures, assist the RN in the care of acutely ill patients, practice medical asepsis, respect patient dignity and privacy, maintain objectivity during patient care, adhere to hospital policies and procedures, respond to emergencies, maintain the patient environment, and document patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provides, obtains or performs and documents direct patient care including activities of daily living, skin surveys, vital signs, specimen collection, intake and output, meal consumption, height and weight, blood glucose testing/monitoring, point of care testing, bladder scanning, transporting of patients and their medical records, documentation of O2, early mobilization and ambulation protocols, assistance with exams, treatments and procedures.
• Participates in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives such as bedside shift report, purposeful hourly rounding for safety, falls prevention, hand washing, isolation protocols, and maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
• Accurately documents vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimen collection, and all other treatments. Report changes in patient's physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Participates in unit activities such as supply stocking, equipment/appliance cleaning, checks, and retrieval.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED
• Limited or no experience
• Must be able to attend 2 weeks of training
• Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
• Basic computer skills
• CPR – American Heart Association
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Possession of an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred
