  • Full-time, 72 hours per two-week pay period
  • Daily work times: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM

About the role

As directed by the team leader and the Registered Nurse and in partnership with the health care team and patient/family, performs work processes to accomplish positive patient outcomes and organizational goals. Provision of care focuses on psychosocial support and activities of daily living.

Responsibilities

  • Cares for patients demonstrating clinical competence in implementing a plan of care.
  • Maintains basic technician skills, such as obtaining vital signs, performing dressing changes, wound care, catheterizations, and EKGs as required in specific work area.
  • Reports observations, including any change in patient status, to Registered Nurse in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Performs phlebotomy as directed by the Nurse using proper patient identification, draw technique, labeling process, and submission to the lab; follows infection control and safety procedures; monitors patients for adverse reactions.
  • Performs interventions to enhance psychosocial support.
  • Provides care supporting physical function for activities of daily living, such as toileting, bathing, feeding, and ambulation.
  • Documents according to hospital and unit-specific guidelines to accurately reflect care provided immediately after performing procedure or task.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of a state-approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program OR
  • Active state of Michigan Nurse Assistant (CNA) license AND completion of a Phlebotomy Training Program
  • BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Patient Care Technician/Assistant certification (CPCT/A) through NHA (National HealthCareer Association)
  • Prior work experience in a direct patient care role in a hospital environment
