Patient Care Technician (PRN) - Medical Surgical Combination

About the role

Memorial Medical Center is a 199‑bed acute hospital in Las Cruces, NM, part of LifePoint Health’s coast‑to‑coast network of acute care, rehabilitation and behavioral health facilities. The Patient Care Technician works on a 34‑bed Medical‑Surgical and Telemetry unit staffed with 2‑3 technicians per floor (a third added when census exceeds 24 patients), maintaining an average patient‑to‑tech ratio of 8‑12. The unit serves patients across the age spectrum—from neonates to older adults—and handles demographic, clinical, insurance, financial and complete medical record information, with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient care as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurate intake/output recording.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, ambulation).
• Observe and promptly report abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Maintain clean, safe, and well‑stocked patient rooms and common areas.
• Manage the tech desk and support nursing/physician staff and overall department throughput.
• Document care and activities per unit standards.
• Participate in performance improvement and required education; perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current SRNA or EMT license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Handle with Care preferred.
• Physical demands: frequent standing, walking, reaching, keyboard entry, repetitive movements, kneeling, lifting/moving patients; occasional sitting and squatting; rare running or climbing.
