About the role
The Patient Care Technician - Medical Pulmonary Unit – Nights position offers a per diem schedule with at least 48 hours every 6 weeks, including at least 24 hours on weekends. Candidates must complete a Monday through Thursday orientation session before starting.
Responsibilities
- Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, using bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, and bed making.
- Assists with exercising and ambulating patients, maintaining physical safety and comfort under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- Obtains patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, reporting any abnormalities to the nurse.
- Performs procedures such as EKGs, perineal care, emptying Foley bags, applying restraints, back rubs, and collecting specimens as directed by the RN/LPN.
- Documents basic patient care into the electronic medical record.
- Aids nursing and clerical staff in admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety.
- Adequately answers unit phones and directs calls to the appropriate parties.
- May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course and successful completion of the CNA certification exam.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic training course completion, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation completed.
- Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course and successful completion of the CNA certification exam.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic training course completion, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation completed.
- Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Pay
The hourly pay range is $18.84 - $27.32, determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience.
