About the role
The Patient Care Technician performs various activities in the treatment and care of patients, including routine hygiene care, ingestion of food and fluids, elimination of body wastes, mobilization, and dressing/undressing. Duties also include performing and recording routine technical tasks, orienting patients and families, assisting with transfers, documenting care, and monitoring supply needs.
Responsibilities
- Collects and records vital signs, intake and output, and blood glucose levels
- Administers suppositories and performs intermittent catheterization
- Measures bladder volume and hangs gastric feedings
- Escorts patients to other areas
- Documents care in the nursing database
- Assists in monitoring supply needs
- Reports reactions or changes in patient condition to the registered nurse
- Assists in transferring patients and patient care equipment
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CNA certification or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program
- Successful completion of Patient Care Technician orientation
- Competency in applying principles of growth and development across age groups
- Effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills
- Ownership for serving the customer, team, and organization
- Ability to adapt to changing work demands and environments
- Critical thinking and sound judgment in responding to patient needs
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
Qualifications
- Knowledge of normal patient care environment
