Key Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned patient care duties including hygiene, comfort, rest, mobility, and elimination support.
  • Affords assistance with patient procedures and emergencies as directed by RN/LPN.
  • Records patient intake and output and documents observations accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Supports patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Affords support in range of motion, ambulation, patient transfers, diet, and postmortem care.
  • Observes and reports significant or unusual patient or environmental information to RN/LPN.
  • Utilizes appropriate technology and equipment safely in the provision of care.
  • Affords assistance in the use of clinical devices including bag-valve-mask, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, incentive spirometer, and emergency carts.
  • Operates patient care equipment such as converter chairs, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive blood pressure monitors, automatic thermometers, sphygmomanometers, pulse oximeters, and computers.
  • Collections and transports patient specimens and ensures timely completion of applicable forms.
  • Transports patients safely throughout the hospital as needed.

Team Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and members of the patient care team.
  • Promotes a supportive and healing environment to enhance patient and staff satisfaction.
  • Participates in unit-based and system-wide performance improvement programs as required.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff to ensure individualized care is delivered according to patient needs.

Compliance & Safety

  • Adheres to Standard Precautions, Infection Control procedures, and safety guidelines to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Ensures compliance with standards of care, Department of Nursing policies, and hospital procedures.
  • Might participate in research projects impacting patient care.
  • Maintains hospital and unit-specific competencies.
