Responsibilities

  • Takes patient history and obtains vital signs
  • Performs basic testing or screenings such as vision, audio, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, EKGs, and pulmonary function testing
  • Accurately completes corresponding paperwork/computer work for lab tests ordered on blood, urine, tissue, and culture samples
  • Performs point of care testing such as strep, mono, glucose, influenza, urine pregnancy, urinalysis, and blood glucose levels
  • Ensures sterile technique, instrument cleaning, and sterilization, and proper use of the autoclave
  • Schedules and coordinates necessary records for ancillary care for patients
  • Absists with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations, ear irrigations, I & D’s, and splinting/orthopedic glass preparation)
  • Maintains confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA)
  • Logs laboratory procedures when completed, processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed
  • Maintains examination rooms and stocks necessary medical supplies
  • Performs duties to ensure good patient flow
  • Greet and registers patients
  • Answers and appropriately triages phone calls
  • Accurately and thoroughly documents the patient’s medical history, physical exam, and procedures
  • Completes transcription as requested
  • Improves provider efficiency during the course of a shift
  • Performs registration duties: explains accepted insurances, pricing, and collects and records payments
  • Accompanies the provider to the bedside
  • Prints, scans, and faxes reports
  • Performs other front desk and cleaning responsibilities as assigned
  • Documents the provider dictated patient history, including history of present illness, review of systems, past medical and surgical history, family and social histories, medications and allergies
  • Documents physical examination findings and procedures as performed by the provider
  • Scribes the results of laboratory and radiographic studies as dictated by the provider
  • Scribes the correct time of patient care related activities

Requirements

  • 1+ years’ experience in a Patient Care Tech role or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to identify equipment problems and correcting or notifying team leader
  • Ability to apply written instructions and standardized work practices
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with staff, patients, and families
  • Able to withstand physical & mental demands: standing, walking, stooping, and bending
  • Requires ability to move equipment and transfer patients
  • Computer knowledge and skills, must be able to register patients on the computer in a timely manner
  • Up-to-date on injections, and provide documentation, as per OSHA guidelines
  • Ability to complete and maintain CPR certification
  • Excellent listening and note-taking skills
  • Basic computer skills, including the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Demonstrated ability to type at least 45 words per minute
  • Strong communication skills, including grammatical, spelling, and verbal
  • Detail-oriented with proven ability to work effectively under conditions requiring accuracy
  • Capable of working well on a team
  • Friendly and customer service oriented
  • Capable of managing high call volume

Qualifications

  • High School Degree or equivalent required
  • E/MT Basic certification preferred
  • Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Technologists
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists
