Patient Care Technician-Part Time Nights

About the role

Transform healthcare as a part of the patient care team within a setting renowned for clinical excellence. Provide nursing care including vital signs, assist with daily activities, and contribute to performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Takes patient's blood pressure, oxygen levels, and temperature
• Absorbs one-on-one care of patients on suicide or safety precautions
• Attends required orientation classes during daytime hours
• Performs basic clerical and technical clinical services
• Transports patients, supplies, and equipment within the facility
• Documents and reports patient observations to licensed staff
• Supports department/unit staff scheduling and covers lunch assignments
• Reviews medical records for outstanding orders and notifies nurses of stat orders and medication changes
• Orders and stocks department/unit supplies and equipment
• Operates and maintains general office equipment
• Follows procedures for timely equipment repairs
• Welcomes and assists patients and visitors; assists with registration
• Serves as “face” of the unit; role models service excellence behaviors
• Interacts with unit staff, patients, physicians, families, visitors, management, ancillary departments, and the general public
• Maintains patient, staff, and customer confidentiality
• Supports multiple nursing units
• May be responsible for phlebotomy, wound care, saline lock replacement, and colostomy bag changes (competency appropriate)

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in direct patient care preferred
• Certified Nursing Assistant preferred
• AHA BLS-HCP within 6 months of hire

Qualifications

• Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
• Successfully completes orientation and competency validation for position

Skills

• Knowledge of principles of growth and development through the life span
• Ability to recognize and report data reflective of the patient's status
• Interprets appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements
• Provides care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures
