Essential Functions

  • Affords assistance with activities of daily living.
  • Communicates significant patient information to registered nurses and other relevant team members.
  • Provides basic care to ill patients, including positioning, lifting, turning, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting with bedpan use, ambulation, preoperative/postoperative care, application of binder or antiembolic stockings, bed baths, oral/hair/back care, changing bed linens, cleaning overbed tables, and bedside stands.
  • Takes and records accurate temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake and output measurements.
  • Documents patient care in a timely manner.
  • Prepares patient rooms and beds for admission, transfers, and discharges, ensuring all necessary equipment is present.
  • Maintains a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for patients, considering factors like cleanliness, ventilation, and lighting.
  • Answers patient call lights, telephones, and paging systems, responding appropriately.
  • Under the direction of a registered nurse, performs routine treatment procedures such as enemas, application of heat and cold appliances, and removal/reapplication of restraints.
  • Assists with feeding and preparing meals for patients.
  • Ensures the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Good and regular attendance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function under stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships within the department and with other departments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred completion of a Patient Care Training program.
  • State Certified Nursing Assistant license preferred.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
