Patient Care Technician - Med/Surg Days

Location: Suffolk, VA

Shift: First (Days) – 7 A.M. to 7 P.M.

Overview

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a full‑time Patient Care Technician on the Med/Surg unit.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and support independent and dependent activities of daily living.
• Take vital signs, assist with mobility and ambulation.
• Perform phlebotomy, point‑of‑care testing, and EKG testing.
• Remove peripheral IVs, collect specimens, and insert/remove Foley catheters.
• Follow patient‑safety practices under the direction of a professional RN.
• Observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions, document promptly, and report any changes to nursing or medical staff.

Education & Certification

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire (required).
• Acceptable education programs include: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT); U.S. Navy Hospital Corps School; Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic); current student in a clinical program (RN, LPN, RT, PT) with at least one semester completed; or recent (within three years) work experience as a PCT or nursing assistant.

Experience

• One year of prior healthcare experience (preferred).

Compensation

• Base pay range: $18.93 – $27.41 per hour (full‑time).
• Potential additional compensation such as shift differentials, standby/on‑call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra‑shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
