Overview
Sentara Health is seeking to hire a Patient Care Technician for the Emergency Department at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Available shifts are Sundays only from 11a-11p, 1 shift per week.

Education
- New incumbents must have one of the following in addition to the minimum Education:
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
- Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
- Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
- Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
- Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT
- Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant

About the Role
The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff. Will provide support for the organization’s respiratory fit testing program for N95 respirators while assisting with additional clinical tasks within the scope of a Patient Care Technician (PCT) role. Responsibilities may include conducting blood draws, performing Amplivox hearing screenings, obtaining vital signs, and administering vision tests to support employee health and safety services.
