About the role

The Patient Care Tech I assists the nursing staff by performing assigned duties for patients and staff under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Duties include, but are not limited to, secretarial functions and some basic nursing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform secretarial functions including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and managing patient records.
  • Assist nurses with patient care tasks as directed.
  • Provide support during patient admissions and discharges.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Organize and prioritize work tasks to ensure smooth workflow.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalency.
  • Completion of third year in the AA Early College Program of a community college and provide transcripts to HR.
  • Nurses Aide I certificate listed with the North Carolina Department of Facilities Services.
  • At least one year of experience in an acute care setting, either as a unit secretary or as a Nurse Aide I preferred.
  • Able to organize confidential clerical responsibilities and patient care.
  • Able to relate effectively to patients, their families, physicians, staff, and all others using proper channels of communication.
  • Maintain current BLS certification.

Qualifications

  • Some understanding of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status.
  • Ability to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements.
  • Ability to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit(s).

Pay

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

Hours are typically full-time, but part-time positions are available.
