About the role
UMass Memorial Health is seeking Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) to join our team. This position is open to those currently employed as internal caregivers, students, or contingent workers/agency workers at UMass Memorial Health.
Responsibilities
- Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients.
- Performs a variety of patient care activities, including assisting with daily living activities, moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients.
- Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention strategies, and following restraint policy standards.
- Takes and records vital signs, measures and records patients' weights and heights, performs EKGs, POC tests, and bladder scans.
- Collects, labels, and prepares specimens for transport to the lab.
- Assists with treatments and procedures, prepares patient, obtains equipment and supplies, helps position the patient, provides emotional support, and cleans up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
- Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake, refills tube feeding bags, empties and records output from various sources, and performs ostomy care.
- Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients' needs by providing respectful, culturally and age-appropriate communication.
- Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment as needed.
- Requests assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school education or GED.
- Basic Life Support certification within 30 days as a condition of employment.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner.
- Basic computer skills.
- Medical terminology knowledge.
- Experience in inpatient/outpatient care or clinical care training.

Pay
The hiring range is $15.00 - $24.49 per hour, with the final offer varying based on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
Schedule
Holidays: One Major Summer Holiday, One Major Winter Holiday
Weekends: Every Fourth Weekend Scheduled
Shift: 4 - Mixed Shift, 8 Hours (United States of America)
