Responsibilities
- Independently performs, with appropriate documentation, all tasks including phlebotomy and specimen processing in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Ensures accurate patient and specimen identification as well as integrity and acceptability of specimens.
- Checks outpatient requisitions for accuracy.
- Organizes and manages tasks within established standards for timeliness without reminder.
- Affords assistance to coworkers with heavy workload.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
- Disposes of waste, replenishes stock, and alerts appropriate personnel of low inventory situations.
- Demonstrates effective communication with co-workers, nurses, physicians, and patients.
- Relays messages accurately, concisely, and in a timely manner.
- Answers the telephone and conducts conversations in a professional manner, always using AIDET with patients and visitors.
- Consults with technical staff as necessary regarding any unusual or unexpected situations.
- Consistently uses safe work practices including appropriate use of equipment and PPE.
- Maintains low error rate.
- Shows initiative in completing mandatory requirements, training, and educational assignments on time.
- Recognizes factors affecting specimen/test acceptability.
- Maintains confidentiality of information.
- Displays effective problem-solving skills.
- Abides by all Bayhealth policies and procedures.
- Ensures all Infection Prevention / Safety protocols are always followed.
Qualifications
- Education: Certificate Program, High School Diploma or GED, Phlebotomy, or Certificate Program in EKG, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or Nursing Assistant.
- Credential(s): None
- Required Experience: Training in Phlebotomy.
- Prior Experience: Previous experience in healthcare setting preferred.
