Patient Care Technician - Behavioral Health Adult - PT - Day

Part-time position, 24 hours per week, 12-hour day shift.

Non-exempt (hourly) role.

About the role

A member of the care delivery team who functions under the direction of, and is assistive to, a Registered Nurse to provide delegated, direct patient care intervention, including the performance of sterile and non-sterile procedures. Responsible for providing a safe environment for assigned patients, completing assigned work, monitoring patients for changes in condition and reporting those changes to the RN, documenting completed work, and reporting any pertinent observations from interventions. This position uses acquired clerical skills to assist in maintaining efficient workflow, ensuring safe, quality care with a patient-centered approach focusing on continuity of care and patient satisfaction. Independent clinical decision-making is outside the scope of this role; clinical questions should be referred to the provider or nurse.

Responsibilities

• Implements identified plan through coordination with the interdisciplinary care team to promote health and wellness.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to achieve expected outcomes.
• Communicates pertinent data and information relative to the patient, situation, or setting in a timely manner.
• Promotes infection prevention through standard precautions, proper procedure in dressing changes, wound care, hand hygiene, and cleanliness of patient rooms/department.
• Provides assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), accurate measurement and recording of weight, height, vital signs, and reports any changes to the assigned nurse.
• Delivers care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring, creating caring relationships, taking uninterrupted moments with patients, and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect.
• Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and supports professional relationships, integrating ethics in all aspects of practice.
• Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings.

Qualifications

Education

• Successfully completed the first semester in an accredited nursing program, or
• Successfully completed a medical assistant or patient care technician program, or
• A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician certification may substitute for the educational requirement.

Experience

• Experience in an office or clinic setting (preferred).

Licenses and Certifications

• Patient Care Technician Certification (PCTC) from AMCA, or
• An active certification to practice in Kansas as either Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician is required as a substitute for education qualifications.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
• First Responder (RQI) certification required within 90 days of hire.
