Patient Care Technician

About the role

Tree of Life Counseling Center is a busy outpatient mental health counseling and medication management office seeing over 1,600 clients in person and remotely every week. We are seeking a full-time (40 hours) Patient Care Technician to join our team in Freehold, reporting directly to our Director of Medication Management Services. This in-person role supports the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner team and assists clients with scheduling, onboarding, and general customer service. Our practice is digital, utilizing web-based electronic health records and telephone systems.

Responsibilities

• Reschedule appointments and manage patient referrals with appropriate follow-up.
• Obtain prior authorizations for medications and treatments.
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Manage communication between patients, providers, and pharmacies.
• Perform basic clerical duties such as answering phones and maintaining records.
• Ensure a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program.
• Previous behavioral health or medical assistant experience preferred.
• Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) may be required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Empathy and a compassionate demeanor.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and mental health disorders.
• Organizational and time-management skills.
• Computer literacy and experience with EMR systems.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly.

Pay

Salary range: $40,000–$50,000.
