About the role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) at START Center for Cancer Research is responsible for providing patient care to individuals participating in clinical trials. This position requires appropriate judgment and decision-making in planning and providing care, adhering to standard operating procedures and professional evidence-based standards.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Aid professional nurses and/or physicians in conducting examinations.
  • Discuss patients' conditions with the nursing team.
  • Draw blood and obtain specimens for clinical and research laboratory testing, as permitted by law and organizational policy.
  • Take vital signs.
  • Perform ECGs.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, and treatments and explain procedures.
  • Record necessary information for review by nurses or physicians.
  • May assist with clinical research or perform other specialized duties requiring supplemental training.
  • Inventory and requisition of supplies and instruments.
  • Set up equipment and prepare medical exam rooms.
  • Prepare charts and lab requisitions for the next clinic day.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • 1+ year of patient care experience.
  • Previous oncology and/or clinical trials experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
