Essential Functions
- Affords assistance with activities of daily living.
- Communicates significant patient information to the registered nurse and other relevant team members.
- Provides basic care to ill patients, including positioning, lifting, turning, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting with bedpan use, ambulation, preoperative/postoperative care, and application of binder or antiembolic stockings.
- Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake and output) accurately and documents in a timely manner.
- Maintains patient rooms and beds for admission, transfers, and discharges, ensuring necessary equipment is present.
- Maintains a clean, ventilated, and lit patient environment.
- Answers patient call lights, telephones, and paging systems and responds appropriately.
- Performs routine treatment procedures under the direction of a registered nurse, such as enemas, application of heat and cold appliances, and restraint management.
- Assists in patient meal service and preparation.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
- Fluent in English reading, writing, and speaking.
- Good and regular attendance.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function under stress.
- Good working relationships within and outside the department.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred completion of a Patient Care Training program.
- State Certified Nursing Assistant license preferred.
- BLS certification required.
- Healthcare experience preferred.
