About the Role
Patient Care Technician (PCT) / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) positions available for 3 days a week, 12-hour shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Assists in preparation of the unit and patient rooms for receiving admissions, transfers, and post-operative patients.
- Uses proper body mechanics when positioning, lifting, turning, and ambulating patients; applies and uses appropriate equipment as needed.
- Understands and implements measures to reduce the risk of health-associated infections.
- Reports any changes observed in the condition or behavior of the patient to the LPN/Registered Nurse in a timely manner.
- Assists with the admission, transport, transfer, and discharge of patients, including care of personal property and clothing.
- Provides safe care to patients, ensuring personal and oral hygiene needs are met daily and/or as necessary.
- Provides catheter care daily and/or as needed; reports pertinent observations to LPN/RN.
- Accurately takes and records vital signs in the patient record promptly; reports to LPN/RN promptly.
- Distributes water and records correct intake and output when indicated within the shift.
- Obtains and labels specimens accurately (e.g., sputum, stool, urine), maintaining precautions at all times.
- Prepares patients for surgery and/or other procedures, including prep and clip, vital sign taking and recording, assisting with bathing and/or voiding, and removing/securing dentures, jewelry, and other belongings.
- Weighs patients as assigned; records weights and alerts RN to any weight gain/loss.
- Makes frequent patient rounds at least every two hours; repositions for comfort and offers bathroom assistance.
- Assists RN with post-mortem care, including labeling and securing all patient valuables.
- Provides patient care as directed by a licensed nurse, including enemas, sitz baths, applying/removing ice bags, k-pads, binders, pelvic/buck’s traction, blood glucose monitoring, and simple dress changes.
Requirements
- State of Florida Nursing Assistant Certification preferred.
- CPR Certification required.
- For the NURSING-6 DE HMT SOUTH cost center, PCT is required to obtain a Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate within 90 days of employment.
- High School Diploma preferred.
- One year of experience preferred.
