Patient Care Technician, 5 West Teaching and Innovation, 40 Hours (Nights)

Department: Critical Care/Innovation

The Critical Care/Innovation Unit at BMC explores nursing model redesign to direct RNs to work to the top of their license. This unit works on innovation teams that pilot, measure, and evaluate new technologies and workflows.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.
• Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
• Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care department, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.

Job Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment).
• Ability to pass clinical competency testing.
• Physical ability to meet job responsibilities.
• Basic math and computer proficiency.
• One of the following: one year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting, currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation, completed an approved Patient Care Technician training, or completed an approved certified medical assistant training.
• One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only).
• Fluency in another language a plus.
• Previous medical/surgical experience preferred.
