About the role
The Postpartum PCT II supports activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. The role requires the execution of clerical duties to help support unit flow, capacity management, and admission/discharge workflows.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to patients in various stages of development.
- Performs assigned nursing duties for the comfort and well-being of patients.
- Responds to patient crisis situations and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.
- Performs successful finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
- Performs defined procedures on point of care instrumentation.
- Communicates to patients, employees, and physicians utilizing courteous verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates competency using required computer skills including order entry, admission, discharge and transfer procedures, and ordering of tests.
- Maintains charts according to CCHS guidelines, coordinates maintenance of unit supplies (e.g., storeroom, central, maintenance, etc.).
- Use proper documentation, writes legibly, signs transcribed orders and records appropriate data, etc.
- Completes mandatory in-service education.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
- Aid in transferring patients between units and off units for discharge.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- One or more of the following qualifications:
- Previous patient care experience including taking vital signs.
- Nursing student who has successfully completed clinical hours or completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
- Acceptance into a Christiana Care approved Patient Care Technician training program.
- Two years clerical or related experience preferred.
Qualifications
- BCLS Certification required.
Skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Collaborative working ability with nursing and provider colleagues.
- Computer skills including order entry, admission, discharge and transfer procedures, and ordering of tests.
- Documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Safety awareness and adherence to departmental safety rules and practices.

Pay
Hourly Pay Range: $19.10 - $27.69
Schedule
Part-time 48 hours biweekly Shift - Day/Eve (7a-7:30p) 12-Hour shifts, every third weekend - every third weekend - every other holiday Newark Hospital location
