Patient Care Tech - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

About the role

The Patient Care Technician performs direct and indirect patient care functions under the supervision of appropriately licensed personnel. The Technician is responsible for assisting patients with personal care needs and participating in the plan of care. The technician regularly communicates observations and data collection to the Clinical Associate. This position also collects test specimens as directed according to established procedures and documents patient care activities consistent with data collection and the test performed.

Responsibilities

  • Absorbs and processes patient care information and communicates observations and data collection to the Clinical Associate.
  • Assists patients with personal care needs.
  • Collects test specimens as directed according to established procedures.
  • Documents patient care activities consistent with data collection and the test performed.
  • Performs Limited Laboratory Services including patient identification and preparation for specimen collection, processing samples for testing, performing required quality control testing and instrument maintenance and function checks, monitoring, recording and reporting tests results to clinicians to include critical values, and maintaining competency/certification of the aforementioned tasks and duties.
  • Communicates with other team members to assist in meeting the needs of the customer and supporting team objectives.

Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • BLS from the American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training required within 1 year of hire or transfer, or until 10/31/25 for existing employees in the role.
  • Ability to speak and write English Language required. Bilingual preferred.
  • At least 8 weeks of Patient Care education or direct patient care experience required; or enrolled in a nursing school or physician assistant program. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills required to effectively communicate with other team members.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, set priorities, solve problems and use good judgment in difficult situations.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.
