About the role

The Patient Care Tech (PCT), under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family wellbeing, including concepts of relationship-based care.

This 12-bed unit (6N PCU) provides care to patients with complex medical comorbidities requiring vigilant monitoring, thoughtful assessment, and timely clinical interventions. Common conditions include pulmonary disease, sepsis, complications from diabetes, cardiac disease, and diabetes. All rooms are private and offer cardiac monitoring capability.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, feeding, and menu selection.
  • Collect and send specimens, including blood and blood cultures.
  • Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
  • Record patient information and required data to meet documentation requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long-term care) or successful completion of a CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
  • Student nurses must have completed the nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Training is provided to prepare colleagues for success.
