Responsibilities
The Patient Care Technician collaborates with licensed nurses to support the safe and compassionate delivery of patient care in a healing environment. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the PCT performs delegated tasks and demonstrates advanced skills in providing care to age-specific patient populations.
- Record data in accordance with policy
- Report patient observations and concerns
- Assist with both clinical and non-clinical duties
- Obtain vital signs
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and feeding
- Collect lab specimens
- Support patient monitoring
- Complete advanced unit-based competencies and skill validations
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of approved CNA/PCT certification program or enrolled as a student with less than one semester left in an approved certification program or 6 months of previous experience in a specialty tech position
- For emergency room departments, an EMT Basic certification may substitute for CNA/PCT certification; paramedic license may fulfill certification requirements
- Must maintain active certification in the State of Kansas
- BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care
Qualifications
Preferred:
- 3+ years of experience in acute or long-term care settings
- Experience in Med-Surg Nursing or Emergency Room (ER) departments
