Responsibilities

• Assist in meeting patient needs for all age groups (neonates, infant, children, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) in the areas of comfort, activities of daily living, clinical procedures as delineated, transporting, and safety needs.
• Obtain blood samples from patients according to established procedures and protocols.
• Communicate with team members in a timely manner about observations of the patient's progress, needs, and problems.
• Maintain established departmental/hospital policies, procedures, objectives, Performance Improvement and Patient Safety, and infection control.
• Work as a member of a unit-based, multidisciplinary patient care team.
• Embrace shared governance nursing organizational principles by staying informed of nursing councils' activities to achieve outcome, goals, and objectives of nursing.
• Accountability monitored through direct observations; achievement of team service goals including satisfaction, quality, and financial outcomes; and performance improvement activities.
• Provide nursing care in an environment that embraces maximum participation by the staff.
• Demonstrate population-specific competencies (e.g., age-specific, cultural sensitivity, patient-centered communication) in performance of role.

Qualifications

Education

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required.
• Related post-high school education (Examples: Unit Clerk, Medical Secretary, etc. or related course work) Preferred.

Work Experience

• 1 year full-time experience performing phlebotomy functions at Phlebotomy I or II level or phlebotomy competence or certification Required.
• Will also consider experience in other allied health professions requiring phlebotomy skills such as: LPHI or II, Paramedic, EMT, or Certified Medical Assistant.
• Experience dealing with public demonstrating excellent customer service skills Required.
• 1 year experience in direct care/lab Preferred.
• Direct patient care experience such as Nursing Assistant, Dietetics Representative, Physical Therapy Aide, Phlebotomist, EKG Technician, etc. Preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

• BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required.
• CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Preferred.
• CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification Preferred.
