Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician, working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, is primarily responsible for providing direct, non-invasive bedside care to patients. This position integrates company values into daily practice.

Essential Functions

• Prioritizes and delivers basic patient care, including bathing, toileting, feeding, grooming, etc.
• Performs and documents vital signs, measures and records intake and output, weights, specimen collections, etc.
• Transfers patients utilizing proper body mechanics and safe patient handling techniques.
• Reports any changes observed in condition or behavior of patient to appropriate nursing personnel.
• Affords assistance in preparing unit, patient rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admissions.
• Maintains bed and room in a clean, neat, safe, and comfortable manner.
• Removes supplies and equipment not in use; placing furnishings and equipment out of the path in order to provide a safe, neat, and organized area.
• Affords assistance in maintaining a physical, social, and psychological environment conducive to providing maximal patient comfort and optimizing healing.
• Promptly and appropriately responds to patient and family calls and requests.
• Affords assistance in appropriately designating applicable charges to individual patients using hospital’s established system.
• May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
• Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Affords assistance in assessing environmental risks for safety and implementing appropriate precautions.
• Complies with appropriate and approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
• Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
• Completes required trainings, as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Minimum Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent strongly preferred. 2 years of experience in inpatient hospital setting preferred.
• Required Licenses, Certifications, And/or Documentation: Current BLS required.

Physical Requirements

• Over The Course Of a Shift: A significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods of time.
• Gross and precise motor functions.
• Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs.
• Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
• Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care.
• Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
• Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
