About the role
The Patient Care Technician II (PCT II) provides advanced designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of the licensed clinical team members in ways that value the uniqueness of each individual and addresses the physiological, emotional, and social needs of the diversity of patients served by Jefferson Health.
Responsibilities
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Recognizes the patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
- Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners.
- Performs designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs under direction of licensed clinical team members.
- Actively promotes and maintains a safe patient care environment.
- Maintains ability to recognize and monitor individual patient’s EKG.
- Maintains ability to recognize and report hemodynamic instability and critical changes in patient condition.
- Maintains IV Insertion competency including IV insertion using Ultrasound guidance.
- Maintains advanced knowledge and experience with phlebotomy and lab specimen collection including T&S, Blood Cultures.
- Maintains competency regarding use of advanced medical equipment such as splinting, advanced rehab therapy equipment, trauma care, IABP, rapid infuser, central line and A line set ups.
- Works with professional development team to create training modules following vendor supplied information for use guidelines and best practice.
- Acts as a coach/trainer to others team members.
- In the acute rehab setting are able to act as transfer and positioning coach/trainer for specific patient populations.
- Advanced skills in bladder scanning and intermittent catheterization.
- Acts as a coach/trainer to others following formal training guidelines.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- PCT or related certification (Certified nursing assistant) AND Experience Minimum of 2 years nursing assistant, PCT or healthcare experience required.
- Minimum Certifications, Registration Or License Requirements: AHA BLS required, ACLS strongly preferred, PALS strongly preferred in units caring for pediatric patient population.
- Completion of advanced clinical course preferred.
- Handle with Care certification preferred, Dysrhythmia course certification preferred.
