About the Role

This position may function as both a Patient Care Tech (PCT) and Health Unit Coordinator (HUC). A Patient Care Tech assists the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. A Health Unit Coordinator, under the direction of nursing leadership, facilitates unit organization and patient care by coordinating patient, nursing, physician, and other health care provider office and clerical activities.

This is a full-time night shift position in our Medical Neurology department, specializing in caring for patients with neurological disorders and neurosurgeries, including brain tumor resections, craniotomies, conversion disorder, ALS, Guillain-Barré syndrome, spinal fusions, and seizures. We are a Spine Certified Center and the only Stroke Certified Center facility in Utah, and one of 100 such facilities in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize and deliver basic patient care, including toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs while providing excellent customer service.
• Report and record patient care findings and data in a timely manner; report changes in patient condition quickly and secure qualified assistance as needed.
• Perform telemetry duties as required and function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patients, addressing patient care needs, and collaborating with the patient care team.
• Transport medications from the delivery system to the RN as required.
• Collaborate and consult with the RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care.
• Assume responsibilities of a health unit coordinator, including answering phones, transcribing physician orders, managing unit records, organizing, stocking, and maintaining unit supplies.
• Implement plan of care as delegated and perform assigned duties within Scope of Practice.
• Perform specialized procedures with skill validation and according to regulatory standards.
• Foster a safe environment by complying with safety policies and taking appropriate action in emergencies.

Requirements

• Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of practice.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
• Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

At the time of hire, Utah candidates must meet one of the following:

• Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in the state of Utah (if expired, must be renewed before start date).
• Completion of a recent Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program (within the past year); CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.
• Completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing Course with a passing grade within the past two years; official transcript required; CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior CNA experience or applicable healthcare experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent interactions requiring verbal communication, hearing, and understanding spoken information, alarms, and needs quickly and accurately, especially during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity for manipulating complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use and typing.
• Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including heavy items.
• Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining/distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
• Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (e.g., full of equipment, power cords).
• May be expected to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
• For roles requiring driving: Ability to drive a vehicle, including sitting, seeing, and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $18.40 - $23.92, dependent upon experience.

Schedule

• Full-time nights (36 scheduled weekly hours).
• Weekend and holiday requirements.
