Patient Care Tech CNA Extended Care PRN

As a clinical support partner, the Patient Care Technician assists the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures under the direction of a licensed professional. This role may also include responsibilities of a Health Unit Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and deliver basic patient care, including toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, providing fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and addressing other patient needs while ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Report and record patient care findings and data in a timely manner; promptly report changes in patient condition and secure qualified assistance as needed.
  • Perform telemetry duties as required by the unit and function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patients, addressing care needs, and collaborating with the patient care team.
  • Transport medications from the delivery system to the RN as required when working on a clinical unit.
  • Collaborate and consult with RNs and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Assume responsibilities of a Health Unit Coordinator, including answering phones, transcribing physician orders, managing unit records, and maintaining unit supplies.
  • Implement the plan of care as delegated.
  • Perform assigned duties within the Scope of Practice and specialized procedures with skill validation according to regulatory standards.
  • Foster a safe environment by complying with safety policies and taking appropriate action in emergencies.

Requirements

  • Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of Montana.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior CNA experience or applicable healthcare experience.
  • Current enrollment in a nursing school program.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions requiring verbal communication, hearing, and understanding spoken information, alarms, and needs—especially during emergencies.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation.
  • Expected to lift and use full range of motion to transfer patients, bend to retrieve and carry supplies, and lift heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients, pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items, often in crowded or busy rooms.
  • May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle, which includes sitting, seeing, and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
