About the role

The Acute Care Medicine Unit specializes in caring for Internal Medicine patients with various diagnoses such as renal, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, hepatology, infectious disease, endocrine, gerontology, and those living with cystic fibrosis. Since 2015, the unit has been recognized by AACN as a Beacon Gold Unit for Excellence, emphasizing continuous improvement in patient outcomes, staff satisfaction, and consumer trust.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit, adjusting as needed for age-appropriateness.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and stocked environment to support patient needs and unit operations.
  • Monitor patients' conditions and report updates to the healthcare team.
  • Assist with patient care, including personal hygiene, safety, and comfort needs.
  • Ensure supplies, equipment, and environments are maintained for quality patient care.
  • Report incidents or concerns to licensed practitioners as needed.
  • Collect and document patient information, vital signs, and other relevant data.
  • Assist with specimen collection for diagnostic purposes.
  • Achieve competency in all required in-services and training programs.
  • Participate in patient safety initiatives and maintain a positive rapport with patients and colleagues.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification or equivalent.
  • AHA BLS HCP certification or equivalent.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting or completion of foundational nursing courses and rotations.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of patient data collection and documentation.
  • Basic hygiene and activities of daily living care skills.
  • Ability to assist with feeding, hydration, and nutrition.
  • Ability to assist with patient mobility and ambulation.
  • Compliance with universal precautions and use of personal protective equipment.
