Patient Care Supervisor - Emergency Department and Observation Unit
About the role
M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center seeks a Patient Care Supervisor to lead the Emergency Department and Outpatient Observation teams. This is a full-time salaried position offering a comprehensive benefits package.
Responsibilities
- Partners with the Manager/Director to supervise and manage day-to-day or shift-to-shift operations.
- Affirms the mission, vision, values, and goals of the organization.
- Plans, manages, coordinates, and evaluates patient care activities including staffing, resource management, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, and financial management.
- Prioritizes assignments to ensure timely, productive, and efficient use of resources.
- Manages equipment inventory and supply management within the operational budget.
- Collaborates with Nursing, Provider leadership, and other stakeholders to implement and evaluate standards of practice.
- Collects and analyzes quality data and uses process improvement methodology to ensure safe and quality patient care.
- Assists with department change and acts as a change agent for system, procedure, and process changes.
- Demonstrates skills and abilities in providing patient care.
- Ensures unit protocols, benchmarks, and hospital procedures are initiated appropriately.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates quality improvement initiatives.
- Manages human resources to achieve quality service and positive employee relations.
- Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Advocates for patient, family, and staff needs.
- Drives improvement activities promoting patient-centered care and positive customer experience.
- Ensures staff compliance in areas of job requirements, education, and clinical competency.
- Promotes a culture of high employee engagement, professional development, nursing education, and research.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing RN.
- Two years nursing experience, at least one of which in a formal or informal leadership role.
- Licensed Registered Nurse.
- BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in nursing, health care administration, business administration, or related field.
- ANCC or AONL Certification.

Pay
The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical.
