Demonstrated Skills

  • Demonstrates ability to properly perform 12 lead EKG.
  • Recognizes tracing and brings abnormalities to the attention of the Charge Nurse.
  • Captures blood samples by venipuncture or skin puncture on patients.
  • Cleans equipment with approved solution per the MIFU.
  • Reports maintenance concerns or faulty equipment per facility policy.
  • Accurately and timely enters documentation in the electronic medical record or database.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing patient care activities for which employee has been prepared and in conformance with Medical Center policy and procedures.
  • Functions under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse.
  • Cleans equipment with approved solution per the MIFU.
  • Reports maintenance concerns or faulty equipment per facility policy.
  • Accurately and timely enters documentation in the electronic medical record or database.
  • Assists in providing direct, safe, effective patient care to meet physical, spiritual, and psychological needs of patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatrics.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Part time Patient Care Specialist position at St. Mary's Medical Center.
  • Ability to perform 12 lead EKG and recognize abnormalities.
  • Experience with venipuncture and skin puncture for blood sample collection.
  • Knowledge of equipment cleaning protocols and reporting maintenance issues.
  • Proficiency in documenting patient care activities in the electronic medical record.
  • Ability to provide comprehensive patient care, including ADLs, nutrition, skin care, and respiratory support.
  • Knowledge of vital signs measurement and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and families.
  • Knowledge of unit-specific equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to make decisions based on patient age and treatment needs.
  • Completion of required competency assessments annually.
  • Knowledge of patient safety practices and on-going performance improvement activities.
