Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) – Med/Surg

About the role

Join Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital, a Magnet‑recognized facility, and work on the 3 West Tower Complex Medical Care unit. This unit cares for adult and geriatric patients undergoing general, breast, gynecology, pancreatic/liver, and urology surgeries. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing environment while receiving support for educational advancement, higher positions, and skills‑development courses.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), including vital signs, weight, personal care, and activities of daily living.
• Perform patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point‑of‑care testing, dressing changes, application of external monitoring devices, and removal of urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to an RN.
• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or willingness to obtain it during the new‑hire period.
• For nursing students: BLS certification prior to hire; a recent clinical rotation in an accredited nursing program may substitute for required experience.
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.

Preferred qualifications

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification.

Physical requirements

• Full‑body motion to move and lift patients; manual finger dexterity with good eye‑hand coordination; extensive standing and walking.
• Medium work: exert 20–50 lb occasionally, 10–25 lb frequently, and up to 10 lb constantly to move objects.
• Physical demands exceed those for Light Work.
• Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Schedule

Night shift from 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., with weekend and holiday requirements.

Pay

Minimum hourly: $18.25
Maximum hourly: $24.95

The displayed range reflects the anticipated range for new hires; actual compensation will consider work history, experience, skill set, and education. The range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings contributions, etc.).
