Patient Care Coordinator
About the role
Patient Care Coordinator is a key position in our office, requiring a high level of sensitivity and responsiveness to patients' needs and preferences. The employee will work forty hours per week, with a flexible schedule to provide efficient service, and will not work more than five days per week.
Responsibilities
The Patient Care Coordinator will perform duties primarily in the Clinic, with a high level of quality and confidentiality. Key responsibilities include:
- Confirming insurance policies and updating patient insurance information
- Communicating with patients regarding high deductibles and cash rate amounts due
- Notifying patients of issues with insurance verification or policy termination
- Requesting and obtaining follow-up visit authorizations via insurance carriers, online portals, or primary care providers
- Securing authorizations for new patient visits
- Creating and managing referral modules based on authorizations
- Obtaining pre-certifications/authorizations for recommended treatments
- Coordinating care by faxing approvals and treatment orders to facilities and informing patients of next steps
- Resolving treatment orders within 14 days
- Scheduling or rescheduling appointments based on treatment coordination, insurance eligibility, or authorization issues
Relationships
The Patient Care Coordinator will report directly to the Patient Care Coordinator Manager and interact with other office and clinical staff, patients, medical groups, adjustors, nurse case managers, hospitals, and Primary Care Physicians and their offices. Communication should always reflect the office's commitment to quality care and customer satisfaction.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- High school diploma or equivalence
- Ability to type 40 words per minute
- Skill in operating a computer and scanner, as well as software programs including Microsoft Outlook and preferably Practice Partner
- Telephone etiquette, superior customer service, and professional communication skills
- Flexibility and ability to multitask in a stressful setting
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Physical Demands
The position requires:
- Sitting and walking, with daily occasional stooping, reaching, and bending
- Occasional lifting up to thirty pounds
- Hearing in the normal range for telephone and personal communication
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboards and other office equipment
