Patient Care Associate- Surgical ICU

About the role

Aids nurses in direct and indirect patient care activities. Assists with preparing patient rooms for occupancy after discharge. Performs additional tasks such as blood draws and EKGs.

Responsibilities

• Observes patient's mental, emotional and physical conditions and reports any changes to the nursing staff.
• Performs non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instructions as directed by nursing staff.
• Conducts regular patient rounds and meets with patient’s family members when required.
• Collates test specimens and performs laboratory analysis as directed by nursing staff.
• Answers patient calls and assists them with their needs.
• Provides physical support for patients with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, using the toilet, walking, standing or exercising.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a Nurse Assistant Certification Program or equivalent.
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification.
• Minimum of six (6) months recent experience as a Nurse Assistant in an acute care setting preferred.
• Completion of phlebotomy course or equivalent experience preferred.
