About the role
Under the supervision of an RN, performs basic patient care and other related technical and clinical support activities.
Responsibilities
- Monitors patient status and response; reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
- Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including but not limited to:
- Monitoring vital signs
- EKG testing
- Phlebotomy
- Taking blood glucose measurements
- Recording intake and output
- Assists with keeping patient rooms/areas stocked, clean, and orderly.
- Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating.
- Assists with transporting patients, as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- No degree or formal education required.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or Red Cross (acceptable types: AHA E-Card, AHA-RQI E-Card, AHA non-eCard, Grace Period for Essential Credential, or Red Cross BLS).
- Three (3) months of patient care experience demonstrating the ability to perform basic patient care, or completion of a formal training program.
- EKG and phlebotomy competencies required within six (6) months of hire.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
