About the role
The Patient Care Associate (PCA): Activity Companion assists the Registered Professional Nurse in monitoring patients who may be at risk for self-harm or have eating disorders, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Responsibilities
- Maintain constant observation of the patient within 3-4 feet.
- Collect and report vital signs, height, weight, blood glucose, and food/fluid intake/output.
- Perform point-of-care tests and assist with patient care tasks like bathing, oral care, and skin care.
- Assist with eating and hydration, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
- Support patients during transport and procedures, and provide 1:1 patient observation as assigned.
- Engage patients in conversation, activities, and provide assistance with elimination and mobility needs.
- Document all care provided in the patient record and give handoff reports to the RN.
- Participate in safety inspections and report critical laboratory values to the RN.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/G.E.D. or equivalent.
- Less than 1 year experience in a healthcare setting or completion of a certified nurse assistant course.
- Experience as a paramedic or emergency technician preferred.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
- Honest, punctual, and adheres to ethical standards.
- Effective communication skills.
