Patient Care Assistant (PCA) – Flex – Multiple Openings

About the Role

We are currently hiring for multiple Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Flex Option positions across various shifts at the Houston Methodist Campus in the Texas Medical Center. Responsibilities

• Function as a competent PCA, demonstrating basic knowledge and skills to carry out delegated nursing assistant-level tasks for a diverse patient population.
• Assist in delivering patient care and services under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Conduct hourly rounding to ensure patient needs are met, record data, and report observations and patient problems to the licensed nurse.
• Perform basic patient care activities of daily living (ADLs) within unit-specific defined limits, including assistance with elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and progress activity.
• Practice Patient and Family Centered Care in alignment with Houston Methodist ICARE values.
• Promote a positive work environment, collaborate with the interprofessional care team, and facilitate problem resolution.
• Provide direct patient care, document care administered, and respond to patient call light systems.
• Assist with maintaining, cleaning, and stocking equipment and supplies.
• Organize workflow, manage priorities, and seek guidance as needed.
• Contribute to improving patient satisfaction, quality, and safety scores through peer-to-peer accountability.
• Assist with patient and staffing needs across the service line or hospital as competencies allow.
• Participate in performance improvement projects and shared governance activities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent education (e.g., GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education).
• Two years of experience as a Patient Care Assistant/Nursing Assistant.

Licenses and Certifications

• BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association.
• NVCRISIS - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Instructor (CPI) - Crisis Prevention Institute (required within 6 months).

Skills

• Demonstrated skills and competencies necessary to safely perform assigned tasks.
• Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential functions, especially in activities impacting patient or employee safety.
• Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a customer service-focused manner.
• Ability to perform basic patient care activities within unit-specific limits and job scope.
