A Patient Care Assistant (PCA) at Visiting Angels Lufkin supports seniors with a variety of tasks, from light housekeeping and meal preparation to mobility assistance and transportation. This role also provides opportunities for personal and professional development, including advanced training in dementia and Alzheimer’s care.
Responsibilities
- Help clients take prescribed medication
- Assist clients with ambulation and mobility around the house or outside (e.g., transferring assistance using hoyer lifts, gait belts, walkers, or wheelchairs)
- Assist clients with personal care and hygiene, including bathing assistance and incontinence care
- Help clients with routine exercises
- Plan and prepare meals with assistance from clients (when able)
- Perform grocery shopping or accompany clients to appointments (e.g., salon, doctor visits)
- Perform light housekeeping duties that clients cannot complete on their own
- Act as a pleasant and supportive companion
- Report any unusual incidents
- Respond quickly and responsibly in emergency situations
Requirements
- Passion for serving others and a true caregiver mindset
- Excellent knowledge of emergency response and first aid
- Knowledge of housekeeping activities and cooking, with attention to dietary constraints
- Willingness to adhere to health and safety standards
- Respectful and compassionate demeanor
- Experience with bathing assistance and incontinence care
- Experience transferring seniors using a hoyer lift or gait belt
- Strong ethical standards
- Knowledge of Alzheimer’s and dementia care
- 2 years of professional experience with the elderly in a facility or agency, or a CNA certification
