Patient Care Assistant - PCA

Visiting Angels' office in Lufkin is seeking compassionate Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) to provide care for seniors and those in need in the Deep East Texas area, including San Augustine, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Norwood, Chireno, and Rosevine. This role is ideal for individuals committed to making a meaningful difference in their community while broadening their skills in home and elderly care.

A PCA with Visiting Angels Lufkin supports seniors with a variety of responsibilities, from light housekeeping and meal preparation to mobility assistance and transportation. This position also offers opportunities for personal growth, including advanced training in dementia and Alzheimer’s care.

Responsibilities

• Help clients take prescribed medication
• Assist clients with ambulation and mobility around the house or outside (e.g., transferring assistance using hoyer lifts, gait belts, walkers, or wheelchairs)
• Assist clients with personal care and hygiene (e.g., bathing assistance and incontinence care)
• Help clients with routine exercises
• Plan and prepare meals with assistance from clients (when able)
• Perform grocery shopping or accompany clients to appointments (e.g., salon, doctor visits)
• Perform light housekeeping duties clients can’t complete on their own
• Act as a pleasant and supportive companion
• Report any unusual incidents
• Act quickly and responsibly in cases of emergency

Requirements

• Passion to serve others—a true caregiver
• Excellent knowledge of emergency response and first aid
• Knowledge of housekeeping activities and cooking with attention to dietary constraints
• Willingness to adhere to health and safety standards
• Respectful and compassionate demeanor
• Experience with bathing assistance and incontinence care
• Experience with transferring seniors using a hoyer lift or gait belt
• Strong ethics
• Knowledge of Alzheimer’s and dementia care
• 2 years of professional experience with the elderly in a facility or with an agency, or a CNA certification

$11.00–$13.00 per hour
