Patient Care Assistant, Oncology/General Surgery

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of the Registered Nurse, responsible for supporting the Oncology/General Surgery Unit to maintain smooth, effective communication between healthcare practitioners, departments, patients, and visitors.

The role is accountable for accurate, timely documentation in the patient medical record, patient admission, transfer, discharge flow processes, and providing basic patient care including data collection, personal hygiene, vital sign measurement, and assistance with activities of daily living.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of clinical and information technology systems
• Understands and maintains patient privacy rights and confidentiality of all medical, financial, and sensitive material
• Manages and acknowledges patient-family expectations to create positive experiences
• Follows directions and communicates clearly with the registered nurse and healthcare team
• Collects and documents patient status information in the electronic medical record and notifies the registered nurse of changes
• Safely maintains and competently uses equipment in the delivery of patient care
• Adheres to company policies, procedures, and directives
• Interacts in a positive and constructive manner
• Prioritizes and multitasks effectively

Requirements

• One year of acute care or telemetry experience preferred
• Basic computer skills
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
• Ability to be at work and on time

Pay

Pay range: $23.00/hr - $30.08/hr. Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including relevant years of experience and qualifications. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.

$1,500 signing bonus available to external hires new to MemorialCare Health System (MHS) employment, contingent upon satisfaction of employment requirements.
