JOB SUMMARY
The Patient Care Assistant I (PCA I) is accountable for supporting patient care activities, under the supervision of a registered nurse, in the clinic setting and on inpatient nursing units. The PCA I works closely with the charge nurse and staff nurses to assure patient care needs are met. The PCA I performs patient care activities, as delegated, and adheres to patient safety measures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:
- a. Education: High School diploma or GED or technical skills/training appropriate to the specialty area.
- b. Licensure/Certification: a) Certified Nurse Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant. Nursing students actively attending an accredited nursing program or who have graduated are exempt of certification requirement provided a satisfactory completion of first clinical/foundations course. If hired prior to January 2021, certification is not required.
- b. Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.
- c. Other certificates as required by unit/service/clinic.
- Work Experience: One (1) Year Work Experience related clinical experience preferred.
- Skills/Knowledge: SAMA certification within 90 days of hire. EKG, and/or Phlebotomy competency validation required, as applicable to specialty area within 6 months of hire.
