Patient Care Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant Med Surg Medical 4-Full Time-Days

Location: Newport News, Virginia

Hiring range: $16.80 – $21.83 per hour. Actual pay is determined based on job‑related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Full‑time schedule: Days available 7 am – 7 pm.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to hospital patients and maintain their environment, including patients requiring special precautions.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the patient’s age and developmental stage, following departmental policies and procedures.
• Promote and maintain a safe work environment for staff and patients, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.
• Understand and use technology systems for patient data collection.
• Ensure availability of necessary resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) to support positive patient outcomes.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations, equipment, stocking supplies, and storing equipment properly.
• Follow the plan of care and perform treatments and procedures competently and independently under RN/LPN direction, which may include enemas, vital signs, ice application, compresses, perineal care, rectal tube, sitz bath, unsterile site care, urine strain for stones, specimen collection, etc.
• Provide care consistent with verbal and/or written instructions while respecting patient privacy and values.
• Accurately complete all required documentation within the appropriate scope of practice.
• Participate positively in training and support of team members, volunteers, and students as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience; prior experience in an acute health‑care setting preferred.
• Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) – Virginia Department of Health Professions, required upon hire.
• CPR/BLS certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute, required upon hire (or CPR/BLS Instructor certification).
