Patient Assistant - Orthopedic Surgery Center

About the Role

The Patient Assistant provides direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, utilizing skill and expertise to complement other health care providers. Major functions include collecting data, recording, and reporting patient information to the RN, assisting patients with ambulating or providing appropriate activity using lift devices, transfer belts, etc., assisting with nutritional needs (feeding), performing vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure), and measuring and recording intake and output. Patient care is adapted to fit age-specific needs of each patient.

Responsibilities

• Collect and report patient data to the Registered Nurse.
• Assist patients with ambulation and activity using lift devices or transfer belts as necessary.
• Support patients with nutritional needs, including feeding.
• Perform and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure).
• Measure and record patient intake and output.
• Adapt care to meet the age-specific needs of patients.

Schedule

80 FTE (full-time equivalent), Monday–Friday, with shifts varying to cover 6:00 AM–7:00 PM surgery center operating hours. No weekends or holidays, with occasional Saturdays in Q4.

Requirements

• BLS (Basic Life Support) provider status in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines or American Red Cross.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school graduate.
• Nursing Assistant Certification.
• Listed on the Nursing Assistant Registry.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles to ensure appropriate and safe patient care.
