Overview

The Patient A/R Specialist at American Vision Partners (AVP) is responsible for answering inbound patient phone calls and assisting with patient account questions. AVP partners with top ophthalmology practices and operates over 100 eye care centers across Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, California, and Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Makes calls to and answers incoming calls from patients, discussing their account balance while ensuring exceptional patient experiences.
  • Maintains occupancy rate at or above department levels.
  • Takes payments over the phone from patients and makes payment arrangements.
  • Reviews patient accounts for external collection action after exhausting internal collection efforts.
  • Researches and prepares patient credits for refund approval.
  • Processes bankruptcy notices according to company policy.
  • Prioritizes work to maximize turn-around time.
  • Mets or exceeds productivity standards in the completion of daily assignments and accurate production.
  • Maintains an error rate in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Makes changes to demographic information as necessary to produce a clean patient statement.
  • Answers and responds to external and internal phone calls in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performs all other assigned duties.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years medical billing experience or collections experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Working knowledge of CMS guidelines, contracted insurance guidelines, and coding policies.
  • Demonstrated computer and math skills.
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality (HIPAA guidelines and regulations).
  • Able to read and understand oral and written instructions.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, clinic staff, payers, and patients.
  • Professional customer service skills.
  • A desire and dedication to work with self-discipline.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality: adheres to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
