About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Patient Accounting Specialist - Hospital Billing to join our team at the INTEGRIS Health 5300 Building in Oklahoma City, OK. This role focuses on accurately processing healthcare claims, ensuring timely reimbursement, and maintaining proper account documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Import and process payment files, claim processing, and collection of insurance or patient balances.
  • Maintain and manipulate multiple files or work lists as assigned.
  • Communicate directly with payers to follow up on outstanding claims, resolve payment variances, and achieve timely reimbursement.
  • Provide payers with specific reasons for suspected underpayments and analyze reasons for non-payment.
  • Update and maintain accurate information on each account with an action plan for next steps to resolve issues.
  • Handle all communications, including telephone and email, from payers and internal departments.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts, establish goals with supervisors, and track progress.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA guidelines when handling patient information.
  • Understand federal and state regulations, as well as specific payer requirements and explanations of benefits, to identify and report billing compliance issues and payer discrepancies.
  • Assist hospital and/or physician patients who visit the patient accounting office during business hours.
  • Report to the manager or supervisor of the department as assigned.

This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. The work environment is an office setting with no known exposures to hazardous materials.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience in insurance, billing and collections, or a related business environment.
  • May consider successful completion of a 1100+ hour related Career Tech program (e.g., medical billing/coding or accounting/bookkeeping) in lieu of experience.
  • College coursework in a related field or Healthcare Certification (e.g., CRCR, CRCS, CHAA) preferred.
  • Previous experience with medical terminology, basic ICD-10, and CPT coding preferred.
  • Previous experience using Microsoft Office programs.
  • Previous experience in billing, insurance resolution follow-up, cash posting, or customer service preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written).
