Patient Access Supervisor

About the role

The Patient Access Supervisor coordinates and directs the actions of staff involved in patient access/registration functions during a particular work shift. Performs specific assigned tasks and ensures quality and quantity of work performance is consistent with policy and standard. Proficient in the technical and professional skills of the supervised job functions and engages in staff job duties as part of assigned work duties. Reports to department leadership.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and directs the actions of staff involved in patient access/registration
• Accurately processes documentation essential to billing, collecting, adjusting or maintaining patient accounts
• Acts to correct observed deviations from expected behavior and/or reports such to the manager if beyond scope of authority
• Works collaboratively with patients, payers, vendors, hospital departments and other outside parties in relation to patient accounts
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent required
• Associate degree in Business or related field preferred
• 3–5 years of progressive health care setting experience required
• One year supervisory experience preferred
• Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility to assist in planning and implementation of department activities
• Interpersonal skills necessary to assign work to subordinates
• Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9/CPT coding and third party payer insurance verification processes required
• Must possess ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational issues
• Interpersonal skills necessary to direct and assign work to subordinates, explain hospital and department policies and procedures, and communicate effectively with other professionals

Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
